Carmen’s Corner “From a Mother’s Perspective”, is my bi-monthly blog as a mother who has raised and actively participated in the lives of her two children as well as the lives of their teammates and their parents.

Currently married for over 30 years, I will discuss and provide various examples of the role athletics played during my daughter’s and son’s life achievements.  For example, my daughter’s athletic participation spanned years from middle school soccer and track to high school junior varsity and varsity cheerleading to completion of Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Hampton University and MBA from Troy University.  My son’s athletic participation spanned years from T-Ball and recreation level basketball to middle school baseball and basketball to high school junior varsity and varsity basketball culminating in four years of collegiate basketball at Virginia Wesleyan College including an NCAA Division III National Championship in 2006; graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Business and Marketing.

While both my husband and I were very supportive and actively involved in all of our children’s activities, their father tended to be more demanding and passionate than I, especially toward his son (whew….standby for an interesting future blog on this topic). However through it all, there was little difference in the support provided to either of my children by me which appeared typical amongst the female parents I observed at athletic events.

I look forward to providing a “Mother’s Perspective” in the most positive, entertaining way possible and hope that you will be entertained as well as inspired.
